Mr. Boland was an original team member of Athene Holding Ltd.’s launch in 2009, serving until his departure from Athene in 2019 in a variety of executive functions across asset management, operations and technology, and acquisitions. He built the company’s risk management infrastructure, served as the company’s Chief Risk Officer, was the senior risk officer of the investment portfolio, and was a member of the company’s Investment Committee.

Prior to launching Athene, Mr. Boland was responsible for the credit risk management of a large multi strategy alternative asset manager; was comanager of the trade credit reinsurance portfolio in the reinsurance arm of Royal Bank of Canada (RBC); and was credit and market risk manager for the derivatives portfolio at Canadian dealer Scotia Capital Markets.

Mr. Boland is board member of P&C insurers Max Insurance (Canada) and Chelsea Avondale Ltd. (Bermuda), and two not for profit corporations in the US and Canada.

Mr. Boland received his Ph.D in Pure Mathematics from the University of Michigan. He has authored scientific publications on pure mathematics, mathematical finance, and music theory, and served as an Assistant Professor of Mathematics for two years.
